Yoga for Self-Care

Dec 22nd: Hips

4 to 5 p.m.

We will work our way up from the feet to the thighs. We take an average of 8 to 10 thousand steps a day, asking a lot of our feet and legs. You will be guided through a sequence to strengthen, mobilize, and stretch your feet and legs. We will use yoga poses and the Roll Modell technique, which employs a variety of therapy balls to identify places of discomfort and relax them. Having a strong and healthy base will allow you to carry your body with more ease through your days.

Intro to Tai Chi

Monday 9 a.m.

Tai Chi is continuous, slow meditative movement & controlled breathing. It has its roots in Chinese healing & is widely recognized for its health & wellness benefits. Introduction to Tai Chi will consist of 6 classes designed to acquaint the student with Tai Chi practice and foundational movements in preparation for Sun & Yang styles of Tai Chi. After 6 introductory classes, the practice will be taught in series.

Sunset Yoga

Monday 6 p.m.

We delve into the myriad benefits of yoga practice through basic pranayama (breathing practices); yoga sequences emphasizing alignment, breathing, and conscious movement; and reflection on yoga philosophy as it applies in our practice and in our daily lives. We strive to make each class a well-rounded session that leaves every participant feeling relaxed, renewed, and well-nourished in body, mind, and spirit. Moderate intensity; some knowledge of yoga helpful but not required. This summer we are winding our way through a light overview of The Yoga Sutras.

Gentle Flow Yoga

Tuesday and Friday 9 a.m.

Introductory level class, allowing for growth & variations as your personal practice progresses. Class focuses primarily on gaining familiarity with, and basic principles of alignment in, common yoga poses. Variations & options are offered & demonstrated to make traditional poses accessible to practitioners who are healing or have special considerations for their practice. Class includes mindfulness practices, yogic philosophy, & meditation for stress reduction. No prior yoga experience necessary.

Flow & Restore Yoga

Tuesday 6:30 p.m.

Gentle Flow & Restorative Yoga. Feeling somewhat stressed? Like you are just a head walking around detached from the rest of your body? Overwhelmed & tired? This 75-minute class is for you. Expect a slow & gentle flow, stretching movements, some gentle breathing, self-massage, & deeply relaxing restorative yoga poses to get you back in your body in a short time. You will leave your mat feeling rested & restored.

Vinyasa Flow 2.0

Thursday 6 p.m.

If you are ready to venture beyond Gentle Vinyasa Flow, join us on Thursday evenings this summer. Although primarily an asana class (poses/physical practice), participants will explore all 8 Limbs of Yoga expanding their understanding & knowledge of Yogic philosophy. We will explore ethics, meditation, breath-work, the concept of the Energy Body & the relationship of these concepts to overall health. Participants can expect the physical practice to be more challenging & instruction to be more subtle than in a Gentle Vinyasa class. Familiarity with common pose names is suggested as we work toward more fluid transitioning in Sun Salutations & introduce variations to the traditional sequence. Most classes can be adapted to chair or wall variations. Each class includes brief discussion & extended Savasana or Yoga Nidra (final relaxation).

Healing Yoga

Saturday 10 a.m.

Everyone welcome.

Introduction to Yin Yoga:

Wednesdays

5:15-6 p.m.

December 4, 18

We will practice a series of long-held, passive floor poses to address areas in the body that are especially rich in connective tissue and so tend to hold a lot of tension. By finding your edge, being still, and holding poses for up to 10 minutes, you improve your range of motion, increase inner peace and joy, and bring yourself back comfortably into your body. Safe for beginners.

Yoga Nidra:

Friday Dec 6

Monday Dec 16

8 p.m.

Yoga Nidra (psychic sleep) is the art of conscious relaxation. It is a powerful practice liberating the body and mind from usual tensions and anxiety. We learn how to put the body into sleep mode while the mind remains fully awake. The brain wave drops into theta state, where deep levels of healing take place on the enotional, , mental, and physical planes

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation

Fridays 5:15 p.m.

Kundalini Yoga, known as the Yoga of Awareness is a practice that offers meditation breath work, chanting mantra, singing, deep listening to our soul's wisdom, and practicing unique postures to strengthen the nervous, glandular and immune systems.

Kundalini Yoga is prescriptive, so there is a kriya for whatever ails you mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. A kriya is a set of postures, breathwork, and meditations that are designed to produce a particular effect when practiced.

We will practice a kriya and meditate together in every class. All levels welcome. Join Gillian and stretch your comfort zone on the mat and in life.
